Atlas Textiles
Six textile objects from the Middle Atlas, High Atlas and Anti-Atlas.
After having been invited to do an exhibition on ‘boucherouite’ rag rugs from Morocco in late 2010/early 2011 + another exhibition on Mbuti loin cloths from the Congo in summer 2012 this is the third time that I had the honour of exhibiting at the Douglas Hyde Gallery, a very well respected institution in the field of contemporary art.
The collection of textile objects from the Middle Atlas, High Atlas + the Anti-Atlas has been built over the past 3 decades. The 6 selected examples show a surprising similarity of the creative spirit between the pieces from the early 20th century (the large Beni Ouarain carpet + the Ait Abdellah women’s veil) + the almost contemporary ones from the High Atlas.
